War bad? Who’da Thunk it?

So now Vanity fair has the latest in the series of statements by proponents of the Irag War who now are saying that if they had known it would be this bad they maybe wouldn’t have, you know, been for the war. This time its Richard Perle, the only man in America who might be less appealing than the Vice-President.

Just so we are clear. The big problem with the Iraq War is not that the Bushies didn’t manage it well (which they didn’t). The problem is that it was an evil idea in the first place. Hurrying into a war of choice, in a naked attempt to grab power while standing on the graves of 9/11 victims was one on the many shameless acts of this administration. It was ill conceived out of greed for money and power and had nothing to do with enhancing our security besides grabbing a place for more US bases.

Comments like this from Mr. Perle:

“I think if I had been delphic, and had seen where we are today, and people had said, ‘Should we go into Iraq?,’ I think now I probably would have said, ‘No, let’s consider other strategies for dealing with the thing that concerns us most, which is Saddam supplying weapons of mass destruction to terrorists.’ “

are the moral equivalent of someone who rapes a little girl and expresses regret later because, well, the sex wasn’t as good as he expected it to be.
