My biggest problem with Mr. Bush’s approach to the GWOT is that he seems to think its a war we can win with Tanks and Airplanes. They do have a role but we aren’t going to defeat the enemy completely with them. The real job is going to be much more difficult and involves things like global economics and local and regional politics.
Iraq is a mess right now because we have failed to understand the political dimension there. The funny thing is, if you watch this election unfold, its not the case that Bush doesn’t understand politics. He and Mr. Rove understand it really well. Which made me realize that If Bush wins tomorrow, he’s not going to need Karl anymore so why not send him over to Baghdad. In a few months he’ll have the whole country behind Allawi.
